H is for Halston!

I just got a pair of magnificent heels from H by Halston at Bakers. I permanently have a grin plastered for the rest of the night, I assure you. Because of the black beauties (pictures of them will have to go up at another time, I don't have a good enough camera to take pictures right now :c), I decided to post a few photos from Halston's spring/summer 2011 collection. The pieces are breathtaking of course, and I just had to share ;)

Did anyone notice the extra use of dark skinned models? I did ^_^

This bright orange color is so gorgeous it reminds me of a valencia orange. Like, my mouth is watering.

Chic and gorgeous LBD. Add gold. I'm sold.

The draping on this dress is fabulous! It reminds me of a modern Greek toga that was shortened! The shoes are equally as fabulous too!

White with chic accents of black and gold. It's like they were thinking of me with this color palette. The way the fabric falls reminds me of nature and flowers.

Welp, I'm off to do my hair and re-order Netflix! Good night everyone!! :D

"Roman, Roman! Stop it! Stop it! You've gone mad! Mad, I tell you, mad!"

If you guys haven't heard Nicki Minaj's new album Pink Friday, I would encourage you to do so. I know alot of people doubt her skills, image and appearance, but frankly, I don't care. Yes, a good percent of her outer appearance is enhanced somehow, but that doesn't affect her rapping skills and lyricism. I think she's pretty awesome and her collaborations are pretty impressive.

So far, I've only listened to the album 3 or 4 times as a collective whole and my favorites so far have to be "Roman's Revenge" and "Did It On Em". Eminem absolutely killed his verses in Romans Revenge and Did It On Em has the sort of beat I'd want my life to be set to. Well, when I'm feeling particularly like a bad ass.

I'm liking this theme of the long Barbie-like limbs for the Pink Friday photo shoot. :)

Potpourri..kind of...

This is a photo from a fashion show I did a few weeks ago. The group I was in had an accessories designer and we were required to wear all black and have our faces and nails painted black.

Those earrings were pretty awesome. The other accessory I wore down the catwalk first were goggles covered completely in crushed candy canes. Frankly, I don't know how long of a shelf life they have lol.

Champagne Life!

The song and collection combo of the week is........... Donna Karan's spring 2011 ready to wear collection and Champagne Life by Ne-Yo! The color scheme of Donna Karan's collection totally fits the song and even the vibe of the lyrics and music video! Both Donna Karan and Ne-Yo are two of my favorite people; Karan because she's ultimately skilled at creating the perfect urban chic clothing (the core of my style) and Ne-Yo because he's such a talented singer, songwriter and producer. Not to mention he's a fellow Libra and his last album title paid homage to that :)

I love how the backdrop of the catwalk matched the color scheme of the collection! That bracelet is BOSS,  just saying.

I really love this poster! Ne-Yo is awesome. End of story.

Stunning. Gah.

This reminds me of a brown dress I have that has the same crinkled look to it. I call it my brown paper bag dress because the texture and color looks just like one c:

Mr. Whitehead- Style Snag :)

This is one of my friends from SCAD, Reggie. I chose him to be on here because whenever he dresses up, I really like the pieces he chooses :) He has this sort of extra nerdy meets Kanye West style (which makes sense, because Kanye is his favorite person, like, ever.)

Cardigan is from Urban Outfitters, bowtie is from this pretty cool kind-of-thrift store in Little Five Points called Rag-o-Rama, and the button up is from Target/Walmart (he said he's had it for a while and doesn't really remember haha)

:) I watched Inception earlier and it was AWESOME the second time around! You seriously cannot watch that movie on a crappy TV with mediocre speakers; luckily I was with friends who have superb TVs and sound systems ^_^ And I also didn't find out until late that Edith Piaf's "Je ne regrette rien" was a vital part of the movie! I don't know where my head was at not to recognize that song the first time around. Edith Piaf is one of my favorite singers and she helped me learn French in my early stages of French classes :) Anyway, after an entire day of job searching at countless upscale retail stores (Cole Haan, Saks, Kenneth Cole,  Neiman Marcus, Barneys New York, etc.), I'm quite pooped. See you guys tomorrow! Thanks for reading! <3

Ginger Ale in a Champagne Glass

Ever since I stocked up on these awesome pashmina scarves from street vendors in New York City, I've wanted to wear them as tops. I played around with them all summer, but seeing as they're cashmere, they got pretty hot even inside. But it's a little bit too cold in the winter to wear them as tops either. Sigh. Alas, I still wanted to wear it as a top even around the house!

Scarf is from street vendor in NYC, pants are from Zara (they look like thick leggings but they have back pockets and everything!),  earrings are from H&M, belt is a thrift find that was made in Germany :)

two stupid scars peek out on my arm. I have them all over my body sadly :(

Thanks for-a-reading! :D

Adoro el Houndstooth!

My all time favorite print has got to be houndstooth! So you can only imagine my glee when I saw Balenciaga's spring 2011 ready to wear collection...an abundance of houndstooth! Ghesquiรจre has definitely turned Balenciaga around since its closing in the 70s after Balenciaga's death and 1986 when it was re-opened. The fashion house apparently made Audrey Hepburn "foam at the mouth" according to  Diana Vreeland! Anyway, check out some runway photos from the show!

I can't tell whether this is a jacket or a dress but its unique and gorgeous none the less!

I must admit though my preference for black and white would drive me to purchase this first if I had money and  connections like that...

I can totally see one of my friends LibyRon wearing this to school! At SCAD, you can wear just about anything to class and get away with it. He loves his reinvented clothing and bursts of color, so when I see this, it has him written all over :)

This ensemble reminds me of the foundations 2-D Design class at SCAD. The juxtaposition of the tank, skirt and transparent sublayer all work so well with the negative space created by the cutout around the model's neck (I think its Gisele) and the black strip in the transparent layer of the skirt.

The innovative Mr. Panichgul!

I simply had to post the 2011 spring ready to wear collection by Thakoon. LisaRaye would fall in love with the all white pieces, but I absolutely love the color palette he used beside white.

The pairing of this jacket and skirt is the perfect mix of crisp cut and loose flowing.

The cut-outs on the side of this dress are lovely.

Obviously Mr. Thakoon knows how to reinvent a simple dress. I can see why Michelle Obama chose his dress for her husband's inauguration...

Absolutely gorgeous. Oddly (and quite random), this fabric reminds me of Esmerelda's purple and gold scarf from Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

My closet screams for this dress to join it.

This dress looks b-e-a-utiful against her skin tone ^_^ I love how deep, rich colors look against equally dark and rich skin. But I'm sort of a little bit bias (seeing as how I'm dark skinned) <3

Anyway! I'm calling it a night; I've watched Training Day and The Fantastic Mr. Fox with some friends for the past few hours and both movies were awesome. Tomorrow will continue my search for a job. Night everyone!

Song and Collection Combo of the Week!

I've decided to start linking songs with designer collections and posting them together! My friend Michelle came up with the fabulous idea; before she said it, I was just going to do a song of the week by itself. I found this idea to be so much more unique and tailored to the topic of the blog! Thanks Michelle! :D It's really nice to see music and fashion go so well together ;) This week, its She Wolf by Shakira and Chanel's 2011 fall/winter pret-a-porter collection! Noo, its not wolf hair on the unique and interesting full body fur suits, but I felt the lyrics of Shakira's song fit Chanel's collection so well! Check it out!

I love how the models' hair and makeup were done for the show!

Super Extra Early Excited for Halloween...

Ever since I saw this spring 2011 ready to wear collection for Gucci, it made me super extra early excited for Halloween. I have been wanting to be Nefertiti or Cleopatra for years but I wanted to wait until I was more comfortable with my face and body for me to do so. It was kind of unfortunate because when I saw this collection I already had plans to be the Mad Hatter (and that didn't even work out- I ended up being a burlesque dancer haha). Cleopatra/Nefertiti is definitely the way to go next year. But besides this gold dress, Gucci had numerous rich colors that just reminded me of Morocco and Egypt when I saw them...

Chanel Iman looks gorgeous in this rich burnt orange skirt.

in LOVE with this dress

This would be perfect for a Nefertiti costume! But in white :)

Road rage in a parking lot.

I got so fed up with the jerks that live in the same complex as my friend because none of them can park! The parking lot is big, but its also cramped, and even more space is unnecessarily taken up when these fools park into two spots or make their own parking space. So tonight I got fed up and on the way back from a 2 AM run to Kroger (we're making salmon!), I decided to make two nice little signs for the biggest asses I saw in the entire lot. One said, "Move your car, you fucktard. This isn't a parking lot." The other one said, "You can't park for shit. Congratulations." I even put a cute little smiley face next to the 'congratulations'. I really wish I took a picture or video of myself putting them in the cars' windshields. I was running around the lot like a crazy person with the stupidest grin on my face. (Btw so sorry for the cursing, but there's really no substitutes for the words that describe these people).

Not stick skinny or tall. No strong jawbones or long torsos either.

I do some modeling on the side for money and experience and I will say right now I am not typical model size at all haha. Some days I wish I was so I could get jobs that I want, but I remember that I was made this way for a reason and plus, my ultimate goal is not to become a supermodel. As much as I like to do it, I'd rather be behind the scenes.

Is it me or does my face look darker than the rest of me? Eh. My friend Onyana took this for my birthday :) And you can see one of my tattoos!

"This is life, not heaven. You don't have to be perfect..."

I just finished watching the movie Gia, based on the life of late 70s-early 80s supermodel Gia Carangi. What a life. I always heard about this movie through my mom, and she told me how short lived her career was (not to mention her life period) due to drugs and ultimately AIDS. If you have never seen this movie or even heard of Gia, you should really look her up. Such a unique woman and tragic life.

It's sad that her life ended so early.

Angelina Jolie played her in the movie. Sorry for the bad quality photos, the others were even smaller  and even worse quality :/

Bowler Hats, Walking Sticks and Leather Slacks

I want to post a few of my favorite recent ready to wear collections and the first one is Hermes fall/winter 2011 ready to wear collection. It was part of Paris Womenswear Fashion Week :)

How I wish I was present for this.

This might sound weird but when I see the top hat, umbrella and watch, I think of Penguin from the Batman comics.

Absolutely lovely :)

Here's the link for the entire collection; you guys have to check the rest out if you like what you see!

Hermes 2011 Fall/Winter Paris Womenswear Fashion Week Collection

I approve of this message.

My friend Michelle just told me about this song, and although I don't think Katy Perry's voice is strong, she has a gorgeous face and the video is great :)

Katy Perry's "Firework" Music Video

"I want Lanvin, not diamonds!"

Okay, so Lanvin has collaborated with H&M and is now selling pieces exclusively at H&M. AHH, I know. Atlanta is so fortunate to have a shop where Lanvin is sold, as not all H&M stores in the U.S. were blessed with the Lanvin clothing. Anyway, before the clothing was released, I saw this video for the campaign and I watched it 5 times because it was so hilarious. Check it out!

LANVIN FOR H&M CAMPAIGN VIDEO!

Btw, my favorite parts are when the slob in the elevator gets ketchup on the girl's dress, and when the two ladies in the same black dress on their phones see each other.

I think I'm big Meech...

While I was packing my overnight bag yesterday, Katrina starts playing around with my belts and necklaces and stuff and she made herself look quite awesome. I had to take pictures and tweak them so the effects stand up to her look :)

shades are from Aldo, belt tied around her head is from Forever 21 in Times Square (I say Times Square because that Forever 21 sells stuff that most other ones don't), multi-chain pearl necklace is from H&M. The scarf and hoodie are her own; I forgot to ask her where they are from...

She has gorgeous, mahogany brown hair with bright blonde streaks on her sides and framing her face :)  Plus she has two clumps at the bottom that are a good three inches longer than the rest of her hair and those are blonde too! Her hair is awesome and its so thick!

Carribean Concoction

My friend Katrina has been feeling under the weather for the past two days. Her throat, mouth and head have been bothering her. Now I've been off and on sick for the past month and a half and whenever it escalated, I would just wrap myself in blankets and sweat it out and sleep until I felt better. I don't like taking medication when I know my simple methods always do the trick and make the sickness go away, and not just cover it up for hours at a time. Now I told Katrina about the concoction my aunt from Jamaica would always make for me whenever I was nearing my death bed (it wasn't that often) and after I drank it and sweat through a night of sleep, I would feel like a newborn baby the next day. This concoction (its not really a concoction) consists of: piping hot water, lemon juice, honey and your choice of brandy or rum. We stopped at the liquor store for a baby bottle of booze and we annoyed the cashier for a bit asking him about all the diff types of mini brandies and rums.
We came back to her place, and I told her to make a cup of the concoction, wrap herself in as many blankets and clothes as possible, and drink the mixture before it even gets lukewarm. Now when she came out from wrapping herself in blankets, I couldn't help but take pictures because she looked so funny! It was like having a blue striped Barney walk around; she was this big humped looking thing with barely functional arms and hands.

funny. as. hell.

Welp, I'm going to bed. I can barely keep my eyes open, but I wanted to get up everything I had on my list for  this day's post. Night everyone! Tomorrow's Friday! Might be going out and partying it up :)
